Forest Management
In 1990, 2,400 trees were planted on a section of the Engeseth-Rinde farm as part of the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), which aims to restore degraded agricultural land and improve environmental quality. These reforestation efforts are especially important today, as they provide many services that promote environmental health, such as carbon sequestration and deforestation reduction. The species composition of the forest has changed slightly over the last 27 years, with Black Walnut making up a larger percentage of the forest. Future forest management may include thinning, preserving the healthiest trees, and removing those that have been outcompeted.
