Voices of Prairie Creek

Oral histories can help us understand the lives and experiences that shaped the land.

Under the supervision of their professors, Carleton and St. Olaf students have been gathering the stories of people connected to the Prairie Creek WMA. These stories help us gain a more intimate and personal insight into the social forces affecting Rice County.

In the words of historian Paul Thompson, oral histories can "give back to the people who experienced history, through their own words, a central place."

(Quote is from Thompson's 1988 book, The Voice of the Past.)
