Bird Walk

The Friends of Prairie Creek WMA are pleased that Kevin Smith will lead a birdwatching trip to Koester Prairie on Saturday, June 6, 2015. Meeting time will be 7:00am. Kevin will give a presentation on the birds of a Minnesota Prairie/Past and Present, followed by Craig Koester sharing information about the history of this prairie. Participants will break into subgroups, the leaders of which will have scopes, but participants are encouraged to bring their own. The trip will end at noon. We will be hiking in prairie grass (no maintained trails), so participants should come prepared with boots suitable for wet areas, bug repellent, water and snacks. There are no restroom facilities on the WMA. We will have a few extra pairs of binoculars available. The location is one mile west of Dennison, MN on Rice County 31 and one mile south on Lamb Avenue. The prairie is on the east side of the road, with an oak savanna slightly south and on the west side of Lamb Ave.
